Blog Update – September 2020

Good afternoon lovelies,

I hope you’re all having a wonderful Thursday. I expect you’ve noticed a few changes around here over the past few days. Some have been temporary, and some are here to stay.

First of all, I went with my first ever blog name and I ran with it. Finally, finally I have something that feels personal to me, that I only wish I’d stuck with in the first place. I tried playing around a bit but opted for simplicity in the end. I also tried playing around with the Baskerville themes to help my header image stand out but alas, that didn’t work. In the end, I went back to what I had before.

Secondly, yeah.. I went and bought another domain name, again. Okay, so the blog name doesn’t change, but see.. and were already gone (and that’s fine, there can be more than one Mrs Wolfie, it’s just that I’m the best 😉 ), but then I was thinking and toying with it the name a bit more. Thoughtsandmusingsofmrswolfie seemed way too long and amature and lo and behold! That was when it struck me. What are you having if you’re thinking of visiting my blog? Why, you’re having thoughts of Mrs Wolfie, of course! WIth a quick check and a confirmation that it was available, I used that tiny bit of assertiveness that slips out sometimes and bought my new domain. Things have been a bit rough lately, but I hope, I think, I can slowly start pulling my blog back on track.

Third, you’ll note my homepage has changed. I’ve moved that big long section about me and my health and created an ‘About Mrs Wolfie’ page instead. I felt as though, when people visit my blog, maybe what they don’t want is a huge wall of text. Maybe what they want is a simple welcome greeting and links to my most recent posts inatead and so far, the decision to change that has paid off, so again, maybe that can help me get my energy back. If my stats improve, so too should my blogging enthusiasm.

Fourth, I’m doing away with Things That Bring Me Joy Thursdays. On the whole, they are my least read posts, and it makes no sense to keep doing something that my audience just don’t really care about. I wanted to bring you joy, but by the trends that I’ve noticed, you filthy perverts (and I say that affectionately!) prefer a whole something different to bring you joy! That’s fine, because if I know that now, then I know what to do, or not do. My 50 Questions post too was a huge hit, so each Thursday I’m going to try and alternate between a short questionnaire from somewhere and a continuation of my Top Ten Thursdays, which seem to be more popular. If you know where I can find short, weekly questionnaires (that aren’t TMI Tuesday as I already part-take in those posts!) please do let me know in the comments and I will be sure to answer them for your reading pleasure 🙂

Finally, I’ve had to cut my blog back to posts three times per week. I really love writing for all of my lovely readers, but if I’m being honest, I’m struggling to get any housework done! I treat my blog like my job and sometimes lately I’ve been up ‘working’ into the early hours and it is really having an impact on my health. Determined not to give up and quit blogging, I looked at my stats for the following three criteria:

  • My most popular topics (so I know what you want to read)
  • My average word count (so I know what’s normal for me, not what Google says)
  • My most popular days (so I know what days you want to hear from me on)

In a way, I’d already said to Mr Wolfie that I was only going to write on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from now on, so the fact that it coincides with my blog’s most popular days is a huge bonus for my content. Mondays are generally among the most busiest days for a lot of people, but for me they are also when my Gousto box arrives and I have to sort everything away, they’re when I change my bedsheets and they’re when I do my fish tank water changes, so trying to blast out a blog post on the same day as all of that can leave me feeling pretty overrun! By knowing that I can just draft it thentweak abd publish it on the Tuesday (along with my TMI Tuesday post, which you all seem to love!), it takes a lot of pressure off of me and will hopefully lead to much better things for my life, my health and my blog.
