1. Favorite form of adult pajamas: Kimono, soft pant, romper or Winnie-the-pooh style?
You know what? I’m just gonna come right on out and say it, I am a right fussy madam when it comes to sleeping. When I was young, I used to have a pair of long-sleeved lilac satin pyjamas at my grandparents’ house, and I adored them, I slept in them and I was the happiest thing in the world. I grew up with pyjamas, I grew up believing that they were a sort of a-given thing- you went to bed, you wore pyjamas, that’s just how it goes- but then I met Mr Wolfie. I can still remember one of the first nights that I stayed with Mr Wolfie, I actually excused myself to get ready for bed, no questions asked, but then I got into bed in my pyjamas and he was quite taken aback by it, and I was taken aback because, you know, wearing pyjamas to bed was perfectly normal in my eyes, so why on earth was he laughing at me? Long story short, he convinced me to try sleeping with just the top part and my underwear, and then that progressed to just my underwear. I don’t even sleep in a bra and Mr Wolfie has never tried anything we shouldn’t, unless of course we’re both agreed. I get ridiculously hot at night and I’m always throwing the duvet off, then getting too cold and pulling the duvet back over. I’ve since established that sleeping under the duvet with one leg poking out is perfect temperature for me.. Don’t ask.
2. What time do you wake-up in the morning?
Umm.. ideally or literally? Ideally 8am, but this year I’ve been notorious, sometimes sleeping on until 10:30am. Now that winter is drawing in, I need to be even more careful than usual as I am especially prone to the effects of Seasonal Affective Disorder. Foe me, that starts with fatigue and accumulates into suicidal thoughts. I’ve already urged for us to have a more low-key New Year’s Eve as I really don’t cope too well with all of the noise and stimuli. Winter + change + noise can be a volatile mix for me.
3. Your favorite chore to do is _____ .
Ask Bill at Rope & Roses. I am an organisation whore and I find organising and decluttering extremely therapeutic. I love organised spaces, clean surfaces and minimalism. I have this kind of irrational phobia of messy floors because of the sharp things that can be on it, which is also why I get so angsty when my own home is a mess. For me, a man who can walk barefoot and be comfortable in doing so is so unbelievably sexy. Like.. you’re doing this thing that I wouldn’t dare to do, and you’re completely chill about doing it, do you not realise how fucking sexy that is? I think a lot of girls fawned over Jamie Dornan in Fifty Shades Of Grey when he appears wearing no shirt and ripped jeans. Me? I’m just fawning at his audacity to go bare feet.
4. Least favorite chore to do is _____ . Why?
Cleaning the kitchen, cleaning the kitchen sink, or god forbid, the dishwasher. Bits of non-descript food? Eww, eww and seriously.. eww. Just clean up after you’ve cooked and rinse down after you’ve cleaned. It’s 10-15 minutes tops, easy.
5. Tell us about a home-cooked meal that you cannot forget.
Unforgettable for the right reasons: The last family Christmas dinner we had. Great food, great company, great laughs, alcohol flowing.. what more can you possibly ask for? My family means a great deal to me and honestly, that’s all I really want in my life. We love cooking and entertaining for one another, and we always cook from scratch when we do.
Unforgettable for all the wrong reasons: My Dad’s infamous beef curry. Upon learning that I like Indian cuisine, my Dad said that he would make a beef curry for dinner. To this day, I can never forget the look Mr Wolfie gave me as our little bit of cultural appreciation died on the inside. We ate it out of gratitude and it was a good curry too, but bless him, Dad really didn’t understand how controversial the idea was. We tried to encourage him to stop calling it an “Indian” beef curry and to call it “my beef curry” instead, but to no avail. Sorry India, we tried!
Bonus: Is tired the new norm?
Tired is my norm, it’s not new. Seriously though folks, if you’re feeling fatigued, please do try the beauty that is power naps. I am a shameless power napper, just 15-20 minutes in the afternoon can make a world of difference!
