And now, let’s begin…
Day 25: Write about something that makes you feel strong.
I know that a lot of people would probably expect some kind of BAFTA-style speech here, thanking friends and family who have been there for me and helped me become the person that I am. Whilst that’s true and they have definitely been core to my development, there are two techniques that I personally implement and give me radical confidence and strength, and which I am going to share with you today.
Technique One: My Imaginary Friend
So many people say that talking to yourself is a sign of madness, but actually, it can propel you forward. You don’t need to get into full-scale arguments with imaginary people, instead, practice having a normal conversation with them, practice how you might answer uncomfortable questions, practice empathy… practice, practice, practice!
I’ve used this technique to test out conversations that I needed to have, to practice for meetings, interviews, social situations and so on. It’s not a weird sign of weakness, it’s a great way to boost your interpersonal confidence – so use it!
Technique Two: My Best Friend Is Me
It sounds weird, but it’s true – if you don’t love yourself, nobody can do it for you. Sometimes we forget ourselves, we get so wrapped up in our minds and in our lives that we forget about our thoughts and feelings, we forget to check in with ourselves and to give ourselves the pep talk we so desperately needed.
But have you ever spoken to yourself in the mirror?
If it sounds like something that only the family pet parakeet would do, don’t worry, it’s perfectly fine if you want to act like little Bluey too.
Talking to myself in the mirror allows me to remind myself how proud I am of me, how strong I am, how I have my own back. It sounds really strange when you write it out, and yet when you practice self-love, it makes so much sense.
Have that heart-to-heart with yourself, offer yourself sympathy or words of encouragement, whatever it is is that you wish your best friend was giving you in the moment. Make promises to yourself, make deals with yourself, and then when you step away, be sure to keep your part of that deal.
Have you tried these techniques before? Do let me hear your thoughts in the comments.
That’s it from me for today Twisties! Don’t forget to come back tomorrow for my next Bloganuary post!
Until next time,
Stay safe & have fun,
