A post from the past, but still just as fun.
Good day Twisties,
Unfortunately I haven’t read from the TMI Tuesday blog yet and so I can’t answer today’s questions. However, as it’s now my writing time, I used a random date generator to pick a date from the past and then I answered that week’s questions instead. If TMI Tuesday blog posts later then I will of course be back to partake, perhaps in a seoond post.
So, without futher ado…
What Is TMI Tuesday?
TMI Tuesday is a series of questions generated by TMI Tuesday Blog. It is a great way to meet other bloggers and to share some personal thoughts and experiences. It is important to remember that there are no right or wrong answers to these questions, only the answers of the author – and that’s part of what makes this tag so awesome!
How To Play TMI Tuesday
Copy the below TMI Tuesday questions to your webspace (i.e., a blog). Answer the questions there, then leave a comment below, on this blog post, so we’ll all know where to read your responses. Please don’t forget to link to tmituesdayblog from your website!
Send Me Your Questions!
Do you have something you’ve been itching to ask? Maybe something food-related, something a little bit kinky or something completely random? Have fun with it, then be sure to check back next Tuesday for my answer!
And now, onto the questions…
1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
Turn my alarm off usually! Haha. That, or wave/speak to Matt. If he’s in a meeting then I just wave at him by kind of wiggling my fingers. If not, then my morning greeting is usually something really civil, like “morning, Butt” haha. Don’t ask me why we call one another Butt or Butthead, we just do. I guess it’s the kind of thing that happens when you and your partner is also like your best friend.
2. What is the last thing you do before you go to sleep?
If Matt wants to snuggle, then of course I snuggle up. If not, then I pop my wireless earphones in for some good old ASMR. I haven’t tingled in ages though, which is unfortunate 🙁
3. Are you a giver or taker?
Definitely a giver. I was a volunteer from about eight-years-old, alongside my grandmother in a charity shop. I’ve also done sponsored walks for the PDSA and I donate stuff regularly on Freegle and Olio. When it comes to relationships then I give because I want to give. if I get something back, then great, but it’s not expected.
4. If you had to give yourself a new name, what would it be?
I’m actually considering changing my name, legally, to Elena – a birthday present to me. It’s something that I’ve been thinking and talking about doing for a while, but I held off when my mother said that I was running from my problems by doing it.
Growing up, my parents used to use my first name and middle name together, either if I was in trouble or sometimes just because it was apparently funny to make me panic. I didn’t realise that that was considered emotional abuse at the time, but now that I know, it does feel a bit yucky.
Anyway, for sakes of clarification here, my middle name is Louise. Hearing “Helen Louise” is enough to strike the fear of all things holy into me, even now, even not living in the family home. Not only, but I was bullied a lot at school, including a sexual assault, so I associate “Helen” with weakness, with can’t-do’s, with a whole bunch of negativity and other horrible feelings.
Elena was a pseudonym that I adopted for the BDSM scene. She was never meant to become me, yet she did. She became humble, courageous, kind, honest, shameless (in the right way)… a whole bunch of good things.
Still, I sat on it, I shelved it. I was, after all, running from my problems (apparently).
So then I got the news of this little debacle and it brought Elena back to the surface. My mother said that I was running from my problems, and yet, it seemed as though she was now running from hers. Maybe Elena is not running? Maybe Elena is me? Maybe she is what would genuinely make me happy, after all? There’s more on that.
My brother was born as Malcolm, but he now lives socially as Mally. Mally also has a tattoo – two tribal-style fish kissing across his shoulder blades, an ode to his starsign, Pisces.
So then I decided, if Mally can make these changes to or about himself, why not me?
I won’t disclose my surname on my blog for obvious reasons, but it does sound elegant and almost posh when preceeded with “Elena Louise”. It’s almost floral, and in a weird kind of way, that’s exactly me – soft, sweet, unassuming, feminine.
There is also one other, other bit: My grandmother was a Phyllis, but she lived as Joan. Her headstone reads Phyllis “Joan”, and I don’t want that look for myself when I fall off of the mortal coil. To prevent that, legally changing my name by deed poll is the way forward. I’ve even decided who I want as my witness, who I can easily ply with a promise of football, beer and pizza – Matt’s best friend and our Best Man, James. James is like an older brother to me. I’m going to ask him this weekend!
So watch out, there could be some big news in September. You heard it here first 😉
5. A world-famous chef ask you to make dinner, what would you make?
Probably a beef burger, served in a toasted broché bun and with red onion marmalade. I’d be lying if I said I’m not known for my beef burgers. In fact, here’s one I made earlier 😉 salad was a bit lacking here though, boo!
NB. I’d love to cook for Gordon Ramsay. He’s a strong character, but he’s also kind and genuine. I can take constructive criticism well, so I would be genuinely interested in what he had to say on my cooking and to learn from him. Wheee novice cooks go, I’d like to think I’d surprise him 😉
Bonus: What’s the worst advice you ever received?
If your dog misbehaves, roll up a newspaper and hit him on the nose with it. I was so pissed about it, it inspired a whole post!
