TMI Tuesday, 17th May 2022 – Upside Down Poll (An Anniversary Special!)

Cos it’s a beautiful day…

Whoop, today marks a day for celebration because I have been married to my husband and best friend, Matt, for 9 YEARS!! The time has flown and I’m still just as much in love with him now as I was all those years ago.

Some funny stories… first of all, I initially answered Matt’s proposal by squeaking at him! You think you’ll be ready for that moment and then just.. no. I mean, I’d seen guys propose on TV before and I knew what he was asking me, but I just couldn’t put any words into order and the only thing that came out was a sort of “eee” sound. He hasn’t let me live it down!

Secondly, in the run up to our wedding, this song was everywhere! Get in a texi, it would be on the radio. Go into a shop, it was there, have the radio on while we do some housework…they’d play it. We laughed in the end because it seemed like our fate was decided tfor us. I’m glad it was though!

On Friday I’m going to bring you a Flashback Friday for this special occasion, so if you’re interested in reading about our wedding day be sure to check back then 😉

I also learned today that my American friends don’t put butter in a sandwich, instead, you guys spread the bread with sauce. I feel like y’all have revolutionised the way I make a sandwich because duh! It makes so much sense and it cuts down on unnecessary fat. Mine is Wiltshire ham, lettuce and wholegrain mustard in fresh farmhouse loaf. What’s your go-to sandwich? Let me know it the comments!

What Is TMI Tuesday?

TMI Tuesday is a series of questions generated by TMI Tuesday Blog. It is a great way to meet other bloggers and to share some personal thoughts and experiences. It is important to remember that there are no right or wrong answers to these questions, only the answers of the author –  and that’s part of what makes this tag so awesome!

How To Play TMI Tuesday

Send Me Your Questions!

Do you have something you’ve been itching to ask? Maybe something food-related, something a little bit kinky or something completely random? Have fun with it, then be sure to check back next Tuesday for my answer!

And now, onto the questions…

1. Tell us something with which you strongly agree, or greatly like.

The world is not an inherently good or bad place, it is complex and extensively interlinked.

2. Tell us something with which you somewhat agree, or somewhat like.

Mint chocolate chip is the best ice cream flavour.

3. Tell us something to which you are indifferent, or have no opinion.

Make-up, fashion, the latest trends, TikTok… I’m a wolf, not a sheep 😉

4. Tell us something with which you somewhat dislike or disagree with.

Peas are nice, you just need to learn to correct them properly – load me up with spinach or kale over peas, anyday…

5. Tell us something with which you strongly disagree, or greatly dislike.

You haven’t lived if you haven’t been to Disneyland/swam with the dolphins/skydived/bumjee jumped…

I’ve camped in the Lake District, in the New Forest surrounded by wild ponies, alongside beautful rivers and canals, seen more than a handful of stunning sunrises, stayed up all night talking under the stars…

By not having some of the more expensive things, I learned the art of humility and I learned to appeciate the smaller things in life. I don’t need alot to be happy, good food and great company is usually all it takes. Why have your ultimate happiness once when you can live happy every day?

Bonus: What is an opinion held by others that makes you angry?

Killing living creatures because you don’t like them is okay. If I find out you’ve killed a bee…yeah, lets not. My neighbour beheads slow worms if he finds them in the garden too and just… where is the need? Trap and release, okay? Nobody needs to die, nobody needs to get hurt.

That’s it from me for this TMI Tuesday! Join me next week for the next round. Do you have any questions for me for next week? Don’t forget to leave them in the comments below!

Until next time!

Stay safe & have fun,

Helen xx

  1. Congratulations on your anniversary! Has it been so long since that song was new? My I am getting old which means time flies even faster.

My go to sandwich is peanut butter and jam, preferably Bon Maman or other off brand jam/preserve cherry, peach, strawberry, or orange marmalade. Anything but grape.
And the peanut butter is spread really thick.

    1. Thank you! Yes, it has. It was released in August 2011 believe it or not! We went to a wedding in April 2012, and I remember the bride telling me she was going to have it played when she walked the aisle. Perhaps fortunately, I think she had a change of heart before the big day because she walked the aisle to “Air on the G String” instead.

I’m not personally a peanut butter fan, but grape jelly? That’s a completely new concept for me! It’s interesting, because anything “purple flavour” in most parts of the world appears to be grape, but here in the UK (and, I think, most if not all of Europe), anything purple is blackcurrant flavoured. I’ve tried a few grape flavoured things in my time, and I can definitely say that I prefer blackcurrant to grape. Bramble is my personal favourite jelly, and it takes me back to days of picking blackberries with my family, I’m not sure if you can get it in the US? Definitely keep an eye out for it, it has a lovely summery taste and it’s just wonderful on picnics!

Oh, and orange marmalade or lemon curd too, I don’t think I can decide between the two!

      1. Ok Lemon curd is awesome. But as a sandwich with peanut butter? Not sure. I will have to look for Bramble! Blackberry yes we have that as well as Current. Great thoughts.

      2. Oh no, sorry, I meant lemon curd just as it is. No, I can definitely agree that lemon curd and peanut butter probably wouldn’t work. Lemon curd and chocolate spread, however? That’s a combination.

Ah, you have blackberry? That’s interesting, because that’s what we call bramble in the UK. Many a day spent picking blackberries with my grandmother and mother, only to turn them into bramble jelly or blackberry and apple crumble. If they weren’t so invasive and hard to control, I’d let them grow into the garden!

      3. Ooooo blackberry and apple crumble! And Yes! I will have to try lemon curd and chocolate spread. We get Nutella hazelnut chocolate spread which could an interesting combination.

      4. I do love a blackberry and apple crumble, with hot custard or cold ice cream, especially in the autumn. It keeps summer going for just that little bit longer!

Nutella is exactly what I used to use. Build it up in layers and cut the sandwich stack into inch squares, Mum used to call those “skyscrapers”and they were very popular at parties, for young and young-at-heart alike!

      5. Closest thing to your skyscraper I’ve eaten was a desert at https://www.foolishcraigs.com/ in Boulder Co. Crepes layered with Nutella. Some ridiculous number of wafer thin crepes with a thin layer of spread. Magic.

      6. The food looks very good and it’s interesting to see how “pub grub” looks different across the Atlantic. Personally, when it comes to crepes, it has to be Biscoff spread and caramelised apple slices for me, the sweet spices and apple is just oh so satisfying. Foolish Craig’s had me at Belgian waffles too – I’ve recently found somewhere that sells them here and I love mine with a chocolate drizzle, vanilla ice cream and either berries or crushed Ferrero Rocher. It’s lucky my kitchen is so small, I could invest in a waffle maker far too easily otherwise!

      7. Biscoff Spread?!?!?!?
We love Biscoff biscuits and they are one of our favorite midnight snacks with milk.
Waffle irons come in all sizes from individual apartment sized to family nearly industrial 4 at a time large plate waffles.
        Pub Grub is a thing
And the food channels Guy Fieri’s Drive-ins, Diners, and Dives is a great way to see regional American Cuisine.

    1. Thank you Penny! I can’t seem to reply to your email either sweet! I tried twice and it bounced both times 🙁 xx

      1. Oh gosh! Okay, no worries hun I’ll send you a new email this morning and let’s see if we can copy/paste it in a new thread.
