Kinky With A Twist Summer Review 2022: The Results

Header image for Kinky With A Twist's summer review 2022 results, there is a laptop and notepad on a black background and white text

Good evening Twisties,

As you may recall, a couple of weeks ago I asked you to participate in my suymmer review and to help me make Kinky With A Twist better for you. Unfortunately and despite my best intentions, only one blogger participated in the survey, and so with that in mind I went away and crunched the figures from the past three months instead. What I came up with, I hope, will lead to a bright and exciting future for my blog.

So what’s in store? First I am delighted to say that…

1. Kinky With A Twist is here to stay!

Guys, I made it, I freaking made it, and I thank each and every one of you for being a part of that exciting journey. When I started my blogging journey in 2018 I set out with the intention to educate, not titillate, and as I see the numbers reach into the thousands with each passing month, I feel so satisfied and proud to have and to be able to deliver exactly what I set out to do. How many people can truly say that they love their job? That they are proud of their job and are excited for each day? Not many, but I’m certainly one of them! I love it, and for as lomng as I’m needed, I won’t ever give up!

2. We’re keeping it kinky, baby!

Take a look at this pie chart. Go ahead, I’ll wait:

Created with Google Sheets

Almost 80% of my readership is focused on kink and BDSM. This is my niche, which I’m proud of and happy with (although it can make things a little bit tricky with monetising my blog!) and it makes no sense to deviate from or dilute that. If anything, I need to focus on that more, which leads me to…

3. Another little Twist?

Outside of kink, one of my most popular posts, bizarrely, is this one – yep, it’s a review of a mop! Why? I don’t know, but if it helps people in whatever way then I’m all about that. What I saw here though, is that qute clearly there is a margin for reviews, I’ve just maybe been reviewing the wrong stuff? I’ve already got one (totally kink-free) review promised, but I’ve also seen a big window for bringing honest reviews of our – somewhat expansive – toy collection, and in-depth! It’s easy to say “did that vibrator make you cum or nah?” , but what about our riding crop? Or that paddle? How durable is it? How expensive is it? How does it handle? How does it feel? I want to get into depth with you guys, to recommend toys that I personally know, use and love.

Okay so they’re not ours, but…

4. However, the snack boxes will not be coming back (I know, we’re gutted too)

Having seen these come up a few times on my stats lately, I thought that maybe there was a window of opportunity for them to return, but to completely honest, on the grand scheme of everything else that gets read, how much they cost, how much they actually get read and some of the hiccups we’ve had with them (plus those horrendous air miles!), we’ve decided to abort that idea. A shame, because we really enjoyed exploring the world with our tastebuds, but hey!

5. But TMI Tuesday gets to stay!

I love, love. love interacting with the TMI Tuesday gang, and if you’re looking for a great way to network with other bloggers and become part of a team of shameless, happy-go-lucky perverts writers, I highly reccommend joining us. According to my insights, then Wednesday is my most active day, the day after I post my TMI Tuesday post. Not only is it a great way to network, but with TMI Tuesday blog providing the questions then you’ve pretty much got your next blog post template written for you anyway – now all you have to do is fill in the answers!

6. And what about rambles?

Ahh Twisties, you don’t get rainbows without rain, do ya? I’ve loved rambling for you all, but the truth is, they’re just not read like my other stuff is. They’re there for a week or two, and then poof! they just fall into the background of my more educational stuff. For that reason, I’ve decided to let go of my Saturday ramble and just focus on TMI Tuesday and my Friday posts instead.

Here’s a pretty double rainbow to keep you feeling hopeful πŸ™‚

7. But all is not lost!

Rambles may not work here, but you know what? I just really, really like writing… so I set up another blog! That one won’t be anything like Kinky With A Twist, it will just be for rambling away, not for educating. There will be a link on the menu on KWAT too, so you’ll be able to find it with ease. I’m hoping it will be up and functioning by the end of the week, so keep your eyes peeled πŸ˜‰

8. Can we be (Facebook) friends?

I have a confession to make: I am absolutely sh*t at social media. I don’t really use it in my private world, so when it comes to social media for my blog, it leaves a lot to be desired. With that being said, take a look at this chart:

A pie chart showing most of my readership comes from search engines
Created with Google Sheets

As you can see, then most of my readership comes over from search engines, so although good for my blog, my social media prescence is sort of unnecessary. With that being said, it’s quite clear that some of my readers are still reaching out to me on social media, particularly on Facebook (instagram and Twitter is here too, it’s just not represented), so it makes sense for me to make more of an effort. I have to be careful not to violate rules because of my niche, but what I plan to do is to post links to my posts on my Facebook page, as well as normal stuff, and some Buzzfeed quizzes, just for fun! Do come join me and socialise!

9. Any news of a newsletter?

It’s something I’ve thought about for a while, but what, and how? To be honest, newsletters kind of scare me, but it’s a fear that I shall have to overcome! If you’re amything like me, then an email every day (I’m looking at you, AO!) is too much, but once every two weeks is… probably okay? Of course, it will be up to you whether you sign up or not, but I hope to make that a part of Kinky With A Twist soon!

10. And what about books?

Yep! I toyed around with ideas, but thanks to what feedback I have had, I’m going to be pursuing writing books, and I have my first a;ready in mind/ Of course, I still have to find the time to wite it, but all in good time, Twisties, all in good time. The craziness of the renovations are dwindling down now, so now I can get back to work and get focused.

So there we have it! The future hopes, plans and dreams for Kinky With A Twist , all laid out for you. What do you think? What are you excited for most? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time!

Stay safe & have fun,

Helen xx

Psst… Help me out here, Twisties, I’m facing a bit of a dilemma: What do I call myself? A kink educator? A BDSM expert? A “kinkfluencer” (yeah, I totally made that one up)? Something else entirely? Help a girl out here! I don’t want this to be a title that I’ve chosen for myself, I want this to be a title that you feel reflects me!

      1. I’ve been good! I ended my contract last week. I’ve been doing graveyard shifts for almost six months and it’s starting to affect my health.

      2. Ouch! I don’t blame you at all. Working is one thing, but when it’s making you unwell then you need to take a good look at things. I can remember a spell of tension headaches while I was at the NHS which I started to believe were a brain tumor – nope, just too much work! I’m glad you’ve recognised it and are making changes πŸ™‚

      3. Aw… Me. I’m having this nagging ache on my hip. It was a good job, the pay is really good. But, I don’t think I could keep up with the schedule.

      4. Was that too much standing or sitting maybe? You are not that much older than me, you can’t have bad hips yet! Hehe

      5. Ahh then no, your hip and my knees, we’re both getting old! Hehe. Happy belated birthday, Mr A πŸ™‚

  1. Lol I love “kinfluencer” definitely use that one! I have no idea who the one blogger is that took the survey but she sounds awesome… πŸ˜‚

I’m sad to see the snack reviews go but I do understand why you decided to no longer do those. I’m sure they were pricey and not really worth all that trouble. Maybe you could review local foods and snacks? Just a suggestion 😊

    1. Who said they were a she? Do you know something I don’t? πŸ€”πŸ˜‰ dear me Pooja, don’t become a criminal mastermind, will you? πŸ˜‚

Kinkfluencer it is! It was a stupid word that came up after hearing a social media influencer talk about what she does for a game show and I just thought “wait a minute, that’s kind of like what I do for BDSM. I’m a kink influencer. A kinkfluencer!”, and lo and behold, the kinkfluencer was born. I don’t generally advocate for anyone calling themselves an influencer and I have interacted with a small scale “influencer” before (when I used to sell tropical fish), and not just anyone can do it. It’s much, much more than getting free stuff and reviewing it, then getting paid for that review. You need to appeal to people and make them want to listen to you, or sponsor you. Sadly for this chap, he didn’t influence me to give him any free fish lol.

Hmm local foods is an idea, I’ve wondered about doing British snacks before. I think I did one then it didn’t get posted, or something happened and it got forgotten about. Whether it will appeal to my audience? That could go one of those ways. Thank you for the suggestion though!

      1. I just assumed it was a she because… ummm yay women? πŸ˜‚

Yeah I’ve done the whole influencer thing but ti was too much work. Way more work then you think. Kinkfluencer does sound good though and you may have just coined a new term so yay!

Yeah I think local British food would be interesting. I don’t know if the rest of your audience would love it but I would definitely be very interested!

      2. Uh huh, sure πŸ˜‚

I think the problem with influencing is that you really need to be unique, and also know HOW you’re unique. Haven’t worked that out yet? That’s where you’ll really struggle, and sadly, so many aspiring influencers haven’t managed that first step. I was quite lucky in a way because I had a guest interview that kind of underscored a very unique niche for me (hence, kinkfluencer!), but I can definitely see how it’s a very competitive market for many others. I often feel for you because you work so hard to get to where you are! Your blog is very impressive, but I think your Day In My Life post really underscored the cost you pay with your time, for me anyway.

Haha Stargazy pie! You’ll never want me to review British food again πŸ˜‚ I did find the British snack post and I did publish it, it’s just not been read in months lol. I also tried to get Beyond Meat burgers today but they were out of stock, presumably because Bristol’s vegans have been grilling them with a passion during this heatwave lol. I’ll definitely keep an eye out and keep thinking ideas though 😊

      3. You’re absolutely right, it’s all about standing out from the crowd. Aww thanks that’s sweet, yeah it’s absolutely more difficult then people understand.

Lol yeah British food is very unique… Lol! I hope you get some Beyond products soon I’m curious to see what you think!

      4. Exactly. The influencer I mentioned before was like that, he wanted sponsors and freebies but he didn’t stand out from all of the other (ahem, better) aquatic life vloggers out there and most of the shops who gave him freebies were just ebay sellers who barely even had a Facebook page, I did feel sorry for them. Also he was losing fish in their droves and I got the feeling that his girlfriend was using him to try and get famous so I wasn’t going to buy into that. I’m very against people who use people if it doesn’t show! Lol.

It’s okay, I fully understand. I’ve got SEO work to do today and dead links to edit (because Dead Link Checker has added 472 to the original 3, I swear for sh*ts and giggles lol). I’ve also got to watch at least one episode of Netflix’s new How To Build A Sex Room, which I really don’t want to watch because it looks as corny as… but hey, it’s all part of the job lol. The plus side though is that I will then be able to share some of my/our ideas for people on a budget, or who don’t have a room they can dedicate to the deed. From that i’m also planning a video, which with he a first for me. You are completely right, it doesn’t just stop when you close your laptop down for the day.

Unique? Someone’s being polite πŸ˜‰ I don’t think it is really, I think British, German and maybe Eastern European cuisine is very similar with our love of pork, leafy greens and bread. I shall certainly keep an eye. I think we’re forecast a thunderstorm tonight/tomorrow so maybe once everyone is back to their meat-free cottage pies then they will finally be back in stock lol.

      5. Oh I see. Well to be honest that’s pretty common among influencers. I’ve definitely seen similar.

Wow that’s a lot of stuff to do- good luck!

Haha yeah I think European Cuisines are just different than the rest of the world but they’re also quite interesting dishes. Lol hopefully after summer you’ll get to try it!

      6. Oh definitely, and you just sort of want to bash them with a pillow and say “just be you!”, no? Haha.

Thanks, I haven’t got that far with it, I’m absolutely sweltering today even sat indoors with the fan on. You know that UK that everyone says is cold and rainy? It’s 30 degrees here and it’s 8:15PM lol.

Yeah, but I think that’s the nice thing about our interconnected world now, we’re sharing recipes and discussing dishes and ingredients we’d never even heard of before. Hopefully! Haha. We shall see πŸ™‚

      7. I do want to but at the same time people need to be a certain way to get famous these days and it kind of sucks.

Urgh 30 degrees is crazy hot. I usually can’t do more than 25/26 since that’s the hottest I’m used to.

Absolutely, I’ve tried so many new dishes I would never have even heard of if it hadn’t been for the internet.

      8. Don’t! Haha. I blocked a YouTube channel last night because j just got that vibe from him, the need to be offensive just to be cool and that away from the camera, he’s probably very sensitive and shy. Thanks but no thanks, people can either love me or they can hate me but I’ll never be anything but myself. That’s a promise.

It was 37 midday yesterday and forecast 33 today. I said to Matt last night that even the fans feel more like fan heaters now lol.

Oh yes, and put right so many stereotypes too, I think that’s been the really amazing thing.

      9. Yeah that pisses me off too, it’s annoying! I would much rather watch someone who is just themselves and not someone trying to get famous no matter what.

Lol that is absolutely insane, how have you not turned into a baked potato yet??

      10. Right? Like I’ve been thinking about Inztagram and I’ve been thinking, it doesn’t really matter, I’m not trying to be anyone there, just me. I don’t need Instagram to promote my blog, nearly all of that comes from SEO already.

Working on it! I think Mother Nature has opted for the slow roasted option, send help! Lol

      11. Yeah I think it’s much easier to get traffic by being yourself on a blog then on social media since the norms there are so different.

        Lol good luck!

      12. Yeah definitely, it feels like sometimes on social media you have to have the best of the best, whereas on a blog you can just be you.

        Haha thanks!

      13. And it’s not just the best, you sort of have to be perfect and it’s weird. Idk social media is just very superficial whereas blogging is much more down to earth.

      14. Just like that I think you’ve nailed down my dislike for social media. Love me or hate me I am who I am and I’m too bloody stubborn to change it now lol
